Sufa 53 explained: Israel's new military project in southern Syria The Israeli military resumed construction on Sunday of a trench and road project known as "Sufa 53" along the border with Syria, with excavation work taking place inside occupied Syrian territory. The renewed construction came amid an expansion of Israel's military presence in southern Syria, where Israeli forces have seized territory, carried out repeated incursions and opened fire on Syrian civilians despite UN calls for Israel to withdraw and respect the 1974 disengagement agreement.
